Speaker Announcement: MDEC: Rules and Procedures



Please join us as Parsippany provides in-depth updates on the requirements, guidelines, and procedures for using the Maryland Electronic Court System (MDEC). She will review the basic requirements for navigating MDEC set forth in Title 20 of the Maryland Rules, with which all users of MDEC must become familiar. Attendees will become familiar with Rule 20-102 that lists all Maryland jurisdictions that are subject to MDEC.

MDEC has three principal components:


  1. The Odyssey File and Serve program, which is a web-based application designed to allow registered users to file electronically all documents that are required by Rule to be filed electronically and for the electronic service of those documents on other registered users;
  2. A program for the electronic processing and management of court records by the clerks and other judicial personnel; and
  3. Criteria for the accessing of electronic court records.


The event is free to the public with an optional $10.00 fee for a scrumptious lunch.

2018 Mid-Atlantic Association of Professional Process Servers (MAAPPS) Annual Meeting


PEOPLE, PURPOSE & PASSION:  THE PATHWAY TO SUCCESS
The Mid-Atlantic Association of Professional Process Servers (MAAPPS), is holding their Annual Meeting and elections on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Each year, MAAPPS holds this meeting in accordance with our bylaws in order to update members on the overall status of the organization; review old and address new business objectives; and announce newly elected or re-elected volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors.

Now in its eighth year, the 2018 Annual Meeting agenda will include insights, takeaways and speakers on a range of topics that our members have identified as being relevant to them and/or their companies, including existing and proposed new projects in the areas of education, fundraising, legislation and policy as well as general industry updates. A special address will highlight chartership status and focus on our purpose and passion in the coming months to make the association even more effective.

What is a Registered Agent?




A registered agent is a person or company designated to receive service of process and official mail on behalf of a business. Each state requires registered business entities (corporations, Limited Liability Companies, Limited Partnerships, etc.) to appoint a registered agent on its formation documents. These formation documents (often called articles of organization or articles of incorporation) are filed with the state and the information listed in the formation documents becomes public record. When an individual, government agency, or process server wants to formally contact a business, they will look up the registered agent information on record with the state and send mail or legal documents to the business’ registered agent. When a registered agent receives a document on behalf of a client, they will forward all relevant documentation in a timely manner.
